Poorly Ill Cat

Si and I have just been over to my Mum's returning the cat to her, I'd been looking after her since Wednesday as Mum went up to Preston for a cousin's wedding.

The cat - Kitty has been rather a trial Wednesday night she was fine, demanding food and hiding under my bed as is her wont on the first night being dropped off. Kitty has an overactive thyroid and she tends to throw up the food that has her medicine in it so it's pretty hard to treat her condition. Because of this Mum tends to feed her on demand and she is still very skinny.

Thursday morning I put food out for her and head off to work, knowing that when I get back she will be starving and a tad cross with me because I would be late, a semi formal semi work do. However what I found when I got back was a flat that stunk of cat shit, no sign of kitty but I could hear her. She was making a dreadful wailing sound and chocking noises as if she was trying to sick up something caught in her throat. I found her in my living room hiding behind the sofa in a pitiful state, she had been sick on the carpet once and suffered from diarrhoea a few times I could follow her path round the living room by the increasing runnyness of the mess. She it didn't look like she was chocking on anything but her breathing was awful, and when I picked her up she was shaking.

I don't have a car so there was almost no way I could have got her to the emergency vet fortunately Mum hadn't set off and she was able to come over to take Kitty to the vets. She was not in a good way the vet, a rugged good looking Australian chap, put her in an oxygen tent because of her breathing difficulties and said that he would like to keep her in over night, he blamed the state she was in on her hyperthyroidism and said there could well be underlying heart problems which would have been made worse. What caused it? Could be anything a cold or an upset tummy. They would then transfer her to her regular vets the next day to continue the treatment.

We left Kitty at the vets along with a multitude of phone numbers for them to contact us with, the vets decided to use my mobile number. My mobile was on silent all during the day and I didn't think to look at it.

The emergency vet had handed Kitty over to her normal vets saying that they thought that she was still a poorly little animal and shouldn't go home that night, her normal vets said that they had taken blood and were running some tests. So I called them, they said I could take her home. So when Simon got here we did, I wish we hadn't to be honest she still was not at all well, She barely ate a thing and spent almost all her time under the bed listlessly almost in a stupor although she did totter out for some water and food last night..

So this morning we took her back to Mum's, she showed more interest in her surroundings on the way to the car than she had on Friday but she is most definitely still not herself. I find it sad it very hard to see her looking so poorly, although she is not suffering so badly that the kindest thing would be to put her down by a long chalk, I am not good with serious illness I've decided, I can not do the strong supportive rock act. Not for human nor pet and it's more than a bit embarrassing, I've always been easily effected by emotion unfortunately I'm not growing out of it. I'm not wishing to be cold and emotionless I just wish I didn't cry so easily.

Here is a picture of Kitty last year healthy and not complete skin and bones.

*Update* 6:45pm My mum has just rung she is taking Kitty back to the emergency vets as she really isn't happy with how the cat is doing. She still hasn't eaten and she couldn't make it up the stairs with out help. We'll see how she does.

Because I'm soft

Only because I'm soft and I like cats, please check out this site, a young family in New York City who are proud owners of a beautiful Maine cat had a horrific discovery one day, their beautiful cat had been deliberately injured by some dick. Vet bills are as expensive there as they are here, they have set up a website to raise funds to help pay the bills. I'm pretty sure it is genuine and he is a lovely cat, clicking on the ads will help.

30/7/05 Update some git aimed an ad clicker at the ads on the site so they had to be removed. Such a shame because it was a good way of helping them out, though I know more than enough about recycling plastic.

Wet Pussy

So we have won the right to host the Olympics. Way to go us Brits! Except right now I don't feel excited, moderately pleased the investment into London's infrastructure is now assured, there will be lots of jobs created over the next few years which can't hurt. However it's too early for me to get worked up about the games themselves, it's just too far away. The athletes who will represent us in 2012 are mostly still at school practicing hard and fighting the battle against acne. Though, I will say, if Andy Murray builds on the promising start he showed at Wimbledon we should have a good chance at getting a gold in men's tennis.

I'm not particularly sporty, in fact I could be described as being spectacularly unsporty. I combine appalling hand eye coordination with the speed of a comatose sloth not a good mix and a good reason for me not doing sport. "Play for fun" I hear you cry, well, ok that's what my inner healthy sloth cries "sport doesn't have to be about winning!" Really? I also have a very competitive nature which is a really bad thing for someone who is crap at sport and games.

Side Note - I wrote this out in longhand earlier this evening while my mum watered the flower pots and runner beans in the garden. She also watered the cat as Kitty likes to play chicken with the water spray.

But anyhow, due to my awfulness at sport, PE was a trial for me, constantly being picked last always put into the position where my lack of coordination could do the least damage. Summer time was slightly better as with track and field you don't have teams but constantly being the last one to cross the line did not do much for my ego. It was 5 years of hell.

I went to live in the States for a year when I was 16 I went to school there. PE in America was much better for one thing apart from when I did lacrosse the classes were mixed sex! Wooo and we did fun stuff like play indoor football (Soccer to the Americans). Frisbee throwing, I kid you not I had half a semester of learning how to throw a frisbee, it was great. We also played indoor floor hockey and softball, no one really cared who won, least of all the teachers they would rather we did exercise of some sort and enjoyed ourselves, and I could get away with being awful by saying "but in my country we don't let women do these sports." I was never picked last because people wanted me on their team cos they "loved my accent" and actually, keep this under your hat though, I'm not completely awful at floor hockey!

I wonder how many hits I will get from people searching for "wet pussy"?

More on the Cat

I said (more) that I would publish a photo of the cat when she emerged. Well she did finally, but would she pose for a photograph would she heck as like.

She did this.
Kitty
and then she did this
Kitty
I swear as I started pushing the shutter down she turned away.

She wasn't much better when I returned her to my Mum on Monday she wasn't having any of it. She jumped into her favourite spot in the raised flower bed and waved her bum at me.
Kitty
She was a lot better this weekend, I went over yesterday afternoon for dinner so I took my camera with me, this time she played along I even got action shots.

Kitty is fascinated by water and loves playing chicken with it. She follows my Mum around the garden whenever she waters it. When Mum does long range watering of the beds Kitty hunts the water like she does butterflies and balls of strings or wool!

And finally the cat at rest.

It is now about 11:30pm and the thermometer is reading 26C this is daft!

Breaking out in Cats

I'm cat sitting for my mother, so the little darling is here in the flat leaving little cat footprints all over the place and using me as a trampoline for her early morning exercise. Remember the picture I posted of my nice new kitchen floor? Well thanks to Kitty taking a scunner to her litter tray it looked like this last night I was not a happy bunny.

I swept it up and changed the litter so the little horror should have nothing to complain about now. I will post a picture of the cat when she emerges from under the bed.

Appraisal Of The Day

Comments of the 2nd Reporting Officer - SAC P&A Clk

"Recently he was drinking late with a fellow clerk when he decided that his friend had had too much to drink - so he had him arrested by the RAF Police. I feel a more appropriate course of action would have been to take his friend home".
