The dresses have arrived from the States, so Anne and I went for the first fitting today (well only fitting for Anne because she is learning the finer arts of oasis manipulation down Hampshire way at the moment and won't be able to get away again until the wedding) We managed to get matching pashminas, make up tips for the wedding, make up for the wedding, other stuff but no shoes for Anne.
I is knackered.
We were up til past two, just putting the world to rights over a glass of wine and catching each other up with the gossip followed by a full day walking around Cambridge has left me as tired as a day splashing about by the seaside. Cambridge would be a great city if it wasn't for the tourists, they stand around like gormless massive pigeons, blocking the pavement and generally not adding much to the ambiance. February is the best time to visit Cambridge, it's generally wet, cold, grey, windy and miserable, but the number of tourists is about its lowest. You can get to the shops, the arts cinema, the market and where you want to be without gaggles of gormless tourists mis-identifying buildings. York is also best in the miserable months for the same reasons.
Simon joined us in Cambridge as there was an Apple shop event going on today and he wanted to be part of the zeitgeist. Which was nice.

You should see the German Tourists here in South Florida. They are all wearing flower print shorts, t-shirts that say "I (heart) Florida)" or loose fitting short sleeve flower print button down shirts, and hats. Usually of the straw variety. And they are lobster red and peeling. And of course speaking German.
ReplyDeleteBritish tourists have it a little better, as everything is in English. Or Spanish. There is a lot of Spanish here. But whatever the case, everyone is peeling and red.
Seems that the sub tropical sun is just a bit too much.
If I go to the UK it will have to be when it is cold and wet and dreary. Otherwise I will not be able to afford it. The dollar is almost 2 to 1 against the pound. So if you come here, everything is at least 50% cheaper - for me everything is at least 100% more expensive. Not really fair, but hey I did not vote for the retard in office now.
So everything is cheapest in February huh? Ill remember that. I am not big into standing on the street getting in the way. I will be investigating the pubs.
Yeah the exchange rate is really tough for you guys at the moment and stupidly good for us, so it's probably doing your exports and tourist industry loads of good.

Yay, you went to my home city! And I thoroughly agree with the tourists comment. I'm half tempted to submit a proposal to the council which would legalise tourist hunting during August.
ReplyDeleteCambridge during the cold & wet winter months is by far the best time to go.
