Charlie Brooker Really Doesn't Like Macs and other linkage

To say Charlie Brooker doesn't like Macs could be considered an understatement judging by this very funny rantage. For the record I agree with about 75%.

Bossa - it's an interface for playing your tracks stored on Itunes and if that was all it did I wouldn't have bothered but the clever part is it allows you to tag your tracks using suggestions from audioscrobbler or your own choices something that iTunes doesn't allow you to do which is something I've wanted to do for a while. It also automatically links to the wiki page on the artist playing and to pictures on Flickr which are appropriately tagged as well, which is rather neat I think. Right now it's a free download, up until the end of February, so get yours now.

I found out about it on Darren Barefoot's blog.

Vicky Pollard doesn't have poor verbal skills shocker.

For those of you with Mac's there is a piece of freeware that you can use to import real player audio streams into iTunes. Very useful for "podding" BBC radio programmes that are not yet podcasted by the beeb.

New Year's Resolutions - The Guardian gives hints on how to make them work. I've not bothered making any resolutions, there are things I need to do but I'm not resolving about them.

No doubt some will see this as further evidence that John Prescott is beyond the pale. I disagree for once he as been a clear voice that was sadly lacking from some of his colleagues namely Margaret Beckett.

Flouncing Tenor - oh how many stereotypes does storming off stage of La Scala in a huff fulfil?

John Denver and the Muppets - Go one you know you want to.

Just Stuff

Let me delight you with

A joke that I saw and put on the other blog Rabbits

Saturnian Noises from the University of Iowa via Bad Astronomy Blog

The place where I work has always had a flaky power supply, the mains electricity seems to go with remarkable frequency considering that it shouldn't happen at all, and the emergency generators aren't beefy enough to take the strain. They've been upgraded, supplemented and the site's works services manager is rumoured to have sacrificed voles to the great gods of diesel power generators so that they will work when called upon.

I think he may be graduating up to rabbits.

Something blew on Tuesday evening, the building that houses most of the sites servers has been on/off/on/off/on emergency power ever since. We had to do a "power down" for this evening so that more work could be done over the weekend. The power was going off at 4pm the servers were going to be taken off line from 3.20pm, so our IT people were switching off our computers from 2pm and forbidding them being turned back on.

Stupid.

I took the afternoon off, I did my deep cleanse of my in tray and desk draws last time the network went down 6 months ago.

So I got to see the Christmas lights in daylight for the first time. When I say for the first time I mean this year, the same strings of lights have been hung up ever since I moved here.

It's Still Early November!

It's not impressive.

Linky Links

Astronomy Cast - Newly (relatively) started series of podcasts about Astronomy, I'm enjoying them on the bus it's science without the hard maths but none the worst for that.

I really really dislike Yahoo ugly and avaricious is my feeling about the site still, I shouldn't get a feeling of grim satisfaction when they post iffy results.

Bits and Bobs

I'm suffering from a content drought, I can't think of anything I want to share with the wider world at the moment and nothing really exciting or novel that is shareable is happening to me either. It isn't helping me with my desire to be the Dooce of East Anglia - except the being sacked from my job for blogging bit of course.

This is the point where the easily nauseated may wish to look away: Recently I've been sitting staring into space like a love struck 16 year old, sighing deeply and giggling to myself instead of thinking up insightful, cutting, witty, intelligent blog posts to present to you the reader.

I've not stopped wearing mostly black but inside I'm being very pink and fluffy at the moment which isn't very like me at all normally.

The easily nauseated can look back now.

So as a bit of easyish blogging here are some links

List of Links Type Thingy

Not really got anything to say today except I finally got my replacement contact lenses so can now see the world with out smudges again.

Here is a list of links for your entertainment while I attempt to think of something I want to blog about.

Comfort Breakdown from Eclectech

Santa's New Reindeer spotted by Charlotte, but it's only September for goodness sake and already we are getting fluffy Christmas Stories.

Interview with Chiwetel Ejiofor who is starring in Kinky Boots from today's Guardian

Another brilliant thing I saw in the Guardian today was photos of art work in New York, artist Ji Lee sticks speech bubbles on adverts and posters then leaves them for people to fill in he then takes photos. Wyndham found the link to Ji Lee's site though.

Enjoy.
