Just random stuff

Who are you gonna vote for?

Implicit Association

The mere thought of Huckabee being associated with "good" was giving me serious finger trouble.

I've been getting into Jezebel an American on line magazine for all the cool chicks and dudes

Lolvogue

I have to thank Thau for mentioning the 'zine on her blog, it's what I wanted Cosmo to be instead of the sad sack of tired cliche it is.

And that's it, I couldn't find a third thing for today

Linkage and Learnage

Or Elementary my dear particle. As you may know I like to consider myself, basically, at heart, a scientist. I didn't get my degree but that's another story. Although I now slave away at the coalface of government contracting I still like to keep my finger on the pulse of what is going on out there in the world of hard science.

There are some fantastic science blogs and pods out there, for astronomy I've bigged this up before but Astronomy Cast is an excellent non mathematical discussion about our current understanding of the universe. Not only that their podcast archives are developing into a resource for anyone who wanted to know more than the popular science level but didn't want to/have the time to learn with the mathematics included.

Over the last few weeks I've begun to discover the rational thinking/sceptical blogisphere out there, it's a refreshing change after reading some of the brain melting numptiness of the American fundamentalist blogs that I read for the shear WTFness of them (no links I don't want you to damage your brains). If you are not already reading Bad Science by Ben Goldacre you should be, also highly recommended is Respectful Insolence.

But to the proper linkage - via Cosmic Variance - The Hunt for the Higgs Boson

I keep thinking up bits of blog post but really not enough to hit the publish button for. I'm driving back and forth from Lynn to work, slowly getting used to the distances and the basic tedium of it. I think I'm going to get to know my music collection a lot better as I've found that I've been turning off Radio 4 news programmes this week, as I'm sick of the artificial sound and fury over the misguided decision to let the service personnel sell their stories. I'm really loving the new Kings Of Leon album - Because of the Times at the moment, I've got a bit of a soft spot for southern bluesy rock.

But I don't mean to give the minuta of my daily commute rather I thought I would do a quick upload of things what I have spotted recently

I still don't really get Second Life, it's too empty, slow and hard to use for me, but things like this, using Second Life to try influence the decision of the Paris council town planners struck me as a very good use for the technology. As they are about the first people to do this, it gets them publicity but more than that with a 3D representation of proposed designs for the garden it has the potential to really capture people's imagination and goodwill.

Found this on an American Christian Blog surprisingly enough, OK it's a fairly irreligious blog but still, Star Wars Death Star Explosion Aftermath: That difficult phone call.

Wedding plans are going a pace, it is surprising how much we have to organise in advance, over the last few days we have been mostly considering DJs for the evening do. I've been very disappointed looking at various dj websites in how the last thing they seem to consider is the music that they play, it's all "party atmosphere" and "something for the Mums and Dads" - sounds ghastly to me. There have been very few exceptions This chap DJ78 sounds marvellous, not only does he have a great USP, from his my space it's obvious that he cares about music. That is what I want from my DJ.

Finally as seen on the estimable Rockmother's Blog. Her podcasts are come highly recommended as well, Jimmy Pursey of Sham 69 doing Avant Garde Dance.
